Choosing the Right Lens
If you are in the phase of selecting the right lens for your camera, you should always take it seriously. Choosing the right lens can greatly affect the outcome of your shots. Lenses come in different categories such as retractable zoom, fixed focal length, interchangeable lenses and fixed zoom.
The simplest and the cheapest from the list are the fixed focal length lenses. These lenses are ideal for those who are tight on their budget and real novices or children. This is also a kind of lens that offers a wide angle view only which is perfect for group photos and landscapes. It isn’t that great though when it comes to the picture quality when using this kind of lens. Lenses like this cannot zoom in objects from the distance and they do not accept converters. You may also try using an autofocus lens with a selectable landscape or macro focus mode for a better option.
Retractable zoom lenses have the ability to extend every time the camera is switched on and when it is turned off, it retract. These kinds of lenses are a little pricey but take good quality pictures. It gives limited zoom range which magnifies twice or thrice. These lenses don’t support converters or filters and somewhat delay the start- up time of SLR’s. Its manual focus controls are limited as well.
Fixed zoom lenses accept filters, converters, and flash rings. These additional features give a skilled photographer the cability to take wide- angle, beautiful close-ups, and telephoto photography. This kind of lens can magnify up to 12 times. It offers precised and advanced manual and zoom focus controls through the rings found on the lens rather than using the buttons.
Professional photographers or serious amateurs prefer using interchangeable lenses for their digital SLR’s. This kind of lens can be fully detached from the camera and can be replaced with different one. If you have lenses from your old film camera, you may still find a compatible digital SLR body for it. The most flexible lenses for any kind of shooting situations are digital SLR’s. Though, their lenses are quite expensive. They are sometimes inconvenient to carry for they are quite heavy.
If you are not that familiar with camera lenses, you might be confused with options stated above. But in time you’ll be able to understand and be able to choose the right lens for your need. Try reading reviews of different lenses from different kinds of people. It can help you choose the right lens for your camera.
