In digital imaging with Photoshop, the two basic colour modes to work in are Red, Green and Blue (RGB) and Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK). Both have their pros and cons but which is better when creating Photoshop images.

An existing article on this site called What are RGB and CMYK in Photography and Photoshop? explains the different components of light and how they work in photography. This article considers which mode, RGB or CMYK, is more appropriate in digital imaging work.

The separate colours are called channels; so RGB mode has three channels and CMYK mode has four channels. This means that a 30Mb file in RGB will be a 40Mb file in CMYK. A considerable amount of Photoshop work can be done on the individual channels.

An important question is should we work in Red, Green, Blue mode or
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black mode?

The answer is most definitely in RGB mode for the following reasons:

Images are originally made in RGB.

All images are scanned in RGB. All scanners work in RGB.
If CMYK is offered as an option, it is because the scanner has done a conversion.

All digital images are created in RGB.

Even though they use CMYK inks, desktop inkjet printers are RGB devices.
They accept an RGB file, which they convert to CMYK for printing.
Send such a printer a CMYK file and it will convert it to RGB then convert it back to CMYK.

RGB has a wider gamut (range of colours) than CMYK.

RGB colours are displayed according to digital numbers and are not dependent on the performance of any device, such as a monitor.

RGB files have three channels; CMYK files have four channels, therefore require more memory.

The final appearance of CMYK colours is dependent on the characteristics of the printing process.
There is a large variety of CMYK colour spaces. Until all the details about the printing process are known, CMYK colours will not be accurate for screen work.
CMYK are ink colours for printing and a CMYK image will not be accurate until it is proof-matched.

Ever wondered why it’s K for Black in CMYK – Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black? Probably not, but I’ll tell you anyway.
It is said the practice was started by German printers and stands for ‘Kompensation’ (compensation) because the black corrects the inadequacies of the CMY inks; cyan, magenta and yellow inks being insufficient to make a good black on their own.
So now you’re asking, why not G for Gelb, as in yellow, right? But that would confuse with Rot, Grun, Blau. Similarly, the letter B would have been confusing, because of RGB. So we end up with a bit of an amalgam.

If you are equivalent me, you rightful captive out into a new flat or asylum. Furnishing your new place can get overpriced, so of series you are hunting for the incomparable deals. Electronics can add up to be quite overpriced, and numerous of us are on a qualified budget. Thence, something has to be done to
create the toll within your toll array. I jazz explored numerous options to cheat electronics without defrayal a luck. I’ve tried buying victimized, buying low-grade, and waiting in large lines for occasion items. These methods are real unsafe tho’. Utilized electronics can sustain to be defective in a bunco reading. Low evaluation electronics can disappoint prematurely, and waiting in those large lines numerous nowadays results in achievement place vacuous handed when the outlet runs out of the set.

Freshly, I jazz explored a new way to forbid money on electronics that sometimes tried to be out of my toll array. You are probably wondering what this method is by now. What would you say if I told you that a outstanding muckle of money can be blessed when buying electronics in bundles? Let me opinion. You would say “Purchase electronics in bundles is rightful a way to get more dollars hurried out of your wallet when it looks equivalent you are exploit a lot of items for your money.”

Substantially, freshly I was in the marketplace for a digital camera, and, equivalent usual, I was hunting for the incomparable muckle I could get. I recovered a digital camera and printer clump to photograph the pictures captured by the camera. Then, I realized the toll was actually berth for the clump than new places desired rightful for the camera. Totaled together after the discount it comes to rightful 89.99, and they symmetric direct in release business. If you buy either the digital camera or the ikon printer unintegrated, you present pay more for it solitary. The muckle is recovered here at the reading of composition. Yes, I bed it is remanufactured, but I jazz never had a difficulty with remanufactured electronics. That is the incomparable muckle for a clump of electronics that I jazz e’er proceed crossways. I jazz also bought a place building clump and computer clump. I blessed money, but they were not as goodness of a muckle as this.

Purchase electronics bundles can be a outstanding way to forbid money and get a goodness continuance for a forgather of same items. Search the products before you buy an electronics clump and see if the muckle is really couturier it. I jazz seen bundles
where you pay the strict unvarying assets as if you buy the items unintegrated and one where the toll was actually higher. Commonly this is not the framework, and you really can get a amended continuance for your greenback. So succeeding reading you are in the marketplace for electronics or any new artifact, do many explore on what digital camera and printer bundle are available for the product.

Photography is the activity of capturing images using a camera, with these images being recorded to film or onto an electronic sensor. The camera used to capture images can be as sophisticated as a device costing thousands of dollars with elaborate technology, to something as simple as a pin-hole camera. Technically speaking, the camera captures radiation in the visible spectrum and converts it to an image.
Historically, it has been said that the concept of photography can be dated back to the 4th and 5th centuries when ancient philosophers described the concept of the pinhole camera. The next evolution of the photographic concept came forth with the idea of the camera obscura which is credited to Abu Ali al-Haytham, a Persian scientist who lived in the 9th century. This was a crude box with a hole in one end with an optical device in it that focused the image outside the box onto a surface in the box which was usually recorded in a drawing.
Some of the first photographs that resemble what would be called modern photography were daguerreotypes. This process was invented by Louis Deguerre who used a camera obscura to record an image onto a copper plate sensitized with lavender oil. This plate would retain the image.
Photography has come a long way since these simple beginnings. Initially, black and white photography was the only way to capture images. Black and white photography, originally called the albumen process, dominated the first one hundred and fifty years of photography. Color photography was explored in as early as 1861, but the first commercially successful process of capturing color photographs didn’t come to market until 1907 with the advent of the Lumiere brother’s Autochrome.
For decades, the process of capturing images onto film dominated the world of photography. There were several different formats used by photographers, but easily the most popular format was 35mm. 35mm cameras were used by both professionals and amateurs to capture photos. These images were either recorded on film negatives or onto photographic slides.
With the invention of digital photography, the use of film began to reduce greatly. New digital cameras recorded image digitally, initially onto small floppy discs, but as the technology became more advanced the cameras began to use flash card technologies such as the Compact Flash card or the SD Card. Digital cameras range in sophistication from simple point and shoot cameras to cameras costing thousands of dollars that use expensive and complex lens systems.
Advancements in digital photography clearly spelled the end for traditional film based photography as consumers adopted digital photography quickly. Many camera makers such as Canon have stopped producing film-based cameras and other companies have greatly reduced production of cameras of that type. In the year 2010, 82% of consumers stated that they now use digital cameras for photography.

People looking to make some extra cash every month from the comfort of their own home can be found everywhere, but, despite the promises more and more websites make, not every opportunity is real. If you’ve ever tried to make money taking surveys, for example, there’s a high possibility that you managed to earn some nice money but never got to withdraw it. I know that’s what happened to me a few months ago.

When it comes to such opportunities, I can recommend trying to sell your pictures online. Not only this really works, but I’ve managed to make a comfortable living this way since a couple of years ago.

What you need to do in order to make money selling photos online is to upload the pictures you take to specialized websites and wait for others to buy them. From my own experience, I can say the average pay you can expect for one unique photo is about $2.5. I say “unique” because you only get to sell one particular photo to a single person.

If you choose to have your picture uploaded to the so called “stock photos” websites, you will get multiple commissions for a single photo. That’s because more than one buyer can download one picture. In this case you will get a smaller pay (about $1), but it certainly adds up with the time and your profit increases.

Making $2.5 for every sold photo may not seem like much, but imagine what you could make if you submitted 100 every month. That’s an easy $250 for one or two hours’ work, every month.

But what if you decided to spend two hours every weekend, taking 100 pictures? That would mean a projected profit of at least $1000 per month, for a very pleasant job.

The fact is that I’ve been making a living this way since two years ago, when I went on a trip to Thailand. I got back with about 4000 photos and decided to submit the to specialized websites. During the next 2 months I made a profit of a little more than $10,000!

And the best part is you only need a digital camera to make this work. No previous experience is required, whatsoever.

Canon does upgrades to its best cameras about every year or so. Now we have a new Canon G12 release. Of course it is the upgrade from a G11, which has been an extremely well liked camera.

Outward appearances show that the G12 is about the same as its younger sibling. It is a tad bit heavier, but dimensions are identical.

Interestingly, most of the features are also the same. It has the same image sensor, the same zoom lens with identical focal length and aperture, and the same LCD with optical viewfinder thrown in.

So what is different? The two major things are video and ISO.

The major upgrade is to the video feature. It now has HD 720p capture, whereas the older model had only 640 x 480.
Second upgrade is in the number of ISO settings. The range stays the same, but there are more “in between” possibilities.

That’s pretty simple. But in viewing the comments of new buyers at the Amazon website, there were some pretty outspoken customers. The ones that gave the Canon G12 only one star had something in common. They were all G11 (or older Gx) owners who were disappointed that there wasn’t more.

Looking past those disgruntled folks, the others were very satisfied with their new camera.

The thing about buying one of these high level compact cameras is that they are the same cameras the pros use as “second” or “backup” cameras. This group of pros is a hard bunch to please. They have high expectations, and they sometimes compare the cameras to their pro models. This is something that should not be done.

Truth is, a compact camera has a much smaller sensor than a digital SLR camera, and the image quality will not be the same. It just ain’t gonna happen.

Final question: should you get the newer G12 or the older G11?

Probably. But that’s not the answer that you wanted, right?

There are some prosumer cameras that will provide you with many images you will be proud of. What exactly are you looking for in a digital compact? Take a look at this side-by-side comparison of the top prosumer cameras available.
You can see them at http://digital-photographic-resources.com/cameras/prosumer.html.

About the Author

Prosumer cameras are those digital compacts that the pros might use as a second or backup camera. Canon has had the Powershot Gx line for quite some time now, and with its newest release, it is time to take a look at the Canon G11 Vs G12 to see what upgrades have been made, and whether they are worthy of your attention.

Introduction.

You finally have a digital camera, so now what? You have taken a number of photographs but they are not exactly what you were expecting.

You want the magic of digital. You want those great photographs shown to you in the advertisements.

There is no magic. With some work though you will be able to improve your photographs and have a great time doing it.

Take control.

First get familiar with your camera. Read the manuals that came with it and learn about all the features available. Try these few suggestions.

· Forget the Auto mode

· Try the different Manual and Semi-Manual modes

· Use the different White Balances to see effects

· Change the Shutter speed

· Change the Aperture

· Use the Flash (even in daylight) then turn it off

You’re getting the idea now. Try every different setting available. Make notes about them and learn.

What is one of the greatest advantages of digital photography? You can take a ton of pictures and it won’t cost you any extra money. This is a great learning tool. Use it to full advantage.

View your photography as art.

You aren’t just taking snap shots. You want to make photographs that can be framed and put on display. Keep these points in mind.

· Use a tripod, monopod, or brace yourself to keep the camera perfectly steady

· Take shots from different perspectives, down low, up high, off to one side
· Shoot the complete subject

· Shoot only parts of the subject

· Look for patterns in the subject or in parts of it

· Tilt the camera at different angles

· Zoom in, Zoom out

· Get up close

· Move far away

· If you have an SLR try different lenses

· Go back at different times of the day, to see how the light changes

· Focus on different areas of the shot

· Shoot in colour, and in black and white

· Use all the different camera settings you can on each subject

· Learn and use your photo editing software

· Take your time and have fun with it

If there are other people taking pictures of the same subject, take note of where they are shooting from and then try a different angle. Get the unique angle.

What ever it is you want to shoot, walk around it first. See it from all possible angles and positions. Look at it from a distance and from close up.

The more photographs you take the more you will learn and improve. The art of photography is like any other. Keep practicing and taking notes and you will show a steady improvement.

Get help.

One of the best ideas is to join a camera club or photography meet up group. You will be able to meet other photographers of all levels and trade ideas back and forth.

Join an online group where you can post photographs, for free. You will be able to get feed back on your photos, and to give feed back when you get more comfortable.

You will be able to view thousands of photographs from other people. This will give you some great ideas.

On line groups also have forums where you can join in and get answers to any of your questions. You will find the forums a virtual treasure chest of information.

Summary.

View your photography as art and take control. Take lots of pictures using all of the tools and look for all the advice you can find.

Post your pictures on line and invite friends and family and members of the photographic community to critique them.

It’s a nice feeling to have friends and family say that you take great pictures. However there is no greater incentive than to have someone you have never met look at your photos and tell you they are impressed.

Advice for shooting wedding photography with available light from one of the UK’s most exclusive wedding photographers in London, Jay Rowden BA (Hons)

Shooting with available light is one of the greatest challenges in wedding photography. It’s notoriously difficult to master but when you get it right, the rewards are potentially huge.

So what is the secret to shooting without complicated flashes?

Fast lenses
Use a lens with a low ‘f’ stop number. The lower the ‘f’ stop, the faster the lens. Consider a lens that is at least f2.8, though the Pros amongst us will use lenses that are f1.8, f1.4 and even f1.2.
It’s worth remembering that the faster the lens the higher the price tag!

Prime Lenses
Otherwise known as fixed lenses, (i.e. not zoom) primes are a must for shooting in low light. There is less lens distortion, the images are sharper than zooms and crucially the depth of field is more controllable.

ISO
ISO indicates how receptive the sensor is to the amount of light entering the lens. The higher the ISO, the more sensitive the sensor hence the possibility to shoot in low-light situations. A word of caution: the higher the ISO the greater the likelihood of grain being present in the image.

Exposure
If shooting handheld do not risk shooting at less than 1/60 second. Fix the camera on a sturdy pro tripod and experiment with values starting at 1/30 second or less to allow more light in.

Natural Light Sources
Always try to use them to your advantage and shoot with your back to the light source (i.e. window) unless you are looking achieve a silhouette.

I think this pretty much covers everything.
If you have any pressing questions in relation to shooting with available light please free to email:
studio@jayrowden.com

There are several things you might want to try. I begin with the simple things:

Place Reserve
One of the easiest things you can do is the position of the item you want to take pictures of something as far as possible. If you are standing in front of a wall, he will probably end in a word, everything they do – but if they are standing 100 meters ahead of the same wall as it will be much more blurred. Of course, this only takes you so far – you need to be part of what will be the next one.

Portrait Mode
Canon EOS 20D is a small wheel at the top (left) and lots of little icons on it. One of these icons have a small head. This icon is a symbol of an upright position and if you are not sure changes openings (we discuss this later), is a good space to move, because it is part of the work for you. Portrait mode selects a wide aperture (small “f” number), which makes the depth of field (the number of strokes in the center) is lower.

Aperture priority mode
Aperture Priority Mode is a great way to control depth of field, because it will ensure your photos very open.
If you feel a little ‘adventure to change a wheel “that is the Aperture Priority Mode (go, you can do). I wrote in this space before, but I repeat – This mode lets you choose the aperture (size of the hole in the lens ) and tells the camera to choose all the other settings. This semi-automatic mode is a good way to control depth of field, because it will ensure your photos very open. For the depth of field and a vaguely pleasant background to choose from a large aperture (smaller number of large openings). Try to take some pictures of different apertures and see how it affects your photo at the bottom – this is the best way to learn how to get more creative your shots.

Zoom lens
I do not know what lens you have on your 20D, but if you’re like most people these days will be a zoom lens with different focal lengths. Many zoom lenses have different maximum apertures at different points along the spectrum of focal lengths. For example, if a kit lens 18-55mm will have a maximum aperture of f / 3.5 to 18 mm and the maximum aperture of f / 5.6 to 55 mm. Many see the larger opening at the end of the range of 18 mm and I think would be the best focal length for the blurred background. The problem with this is that 18 mm is a very wide angle and the picture may mean that you must get in close to your subject and could distort their facial features (not really desirable).
Instead, I shoot 55 mm end of the lens is the best. This means that you can stand further away (made only more easily and pushes farther and farther away from the camera in the background). Probably still be nice if you are uncertain backgrounds fastest opening available.
Another good thing that let you zoom to really meet the image of the destination, which may give more weight and less background.

Get a new lens
This is a “simple” solution in some respects, but difficult if you do not have the budget. lenses have different maximum apertures. Those with the most is called “fast” and one of the effects of having a fast lens is that you can make your depth of field is small (another is that you can shoot in low light without flash). A good choice for Canon Digital SLR is the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens. It is very fast, it’s a good focal length for portraits and is one of the objectives of Canon’s most affordable do.

Welcome back to yet another teaching of inconspicuous photography. In this 3rd lesson I’ll give you a couple more tips to reduce your burden in snapping pictures out in the public.

In the last lesson I introduced you to a few more tricks with which to go about your inconspicuous photography without getting bothered. It is always best to present yourself in such a way as to not cause alarm. The tips were to not hide what you are doing and to be prepared. Both of these tricks are integral to your success. If you conceal your actions you will appear suspicious and arise suspicion. If you are not prepared you will face both the problem of not getting your shoot done well or running into trouble if others get in the middle of your shoot.

So what do you do if you are confronted when you are out? What do you do if someone approaches you and confronts you in your task to snap the perfect picture?

5. Be honest

A lot of the time if you merely explain to the person, honestly, what you are doing they will allow you to continue your inconspicuous photography.

Picture you are in a crowded downtown street and you are taking photos of the birds as they fly amongst the buildings. People quickly rush by as you stand stationary in the square looking up the sky. Someone stops beside you and watches your actions. You continue to stand there, without noticing that you have acquired an audience, and continue to snap photos of birds. They sweep from window to tree and back again. The person coughs to get your attention and asks you what you are doing. So what are you doing? It’s simple. You’re taking pictures of birds as they fly around the city because that is your hobby. Perhaps you have a website or a blog where you talk about birds. Birds are your passion and you love taking the photos. You delight in getting shots of new and different birds all the time. You’ve been to various different areas around the city and you find that the downtown area is the best place to get the shots you desire. You can get a greater variety of birds and can also find many different angles, shots and actions than you can in a park.

If you were to tell this to the person who asked you about your actions they are very likely to feel good about your answer and leave you to your shooting. You may even occasionally find the person take a genuine interest in your photography and they may ask you a few questions about the topic. Perhaps a business opportunity might arise. The person might even want to hire a photographer.

That may not be very likely to happen, but more often than not the person will be satisfied with your explanation and move on. You can continue your inconspicuous photography.

6. Lie

Now I know what you are thinking. The sixth rule directly contradicts the fifth. And did he just call them rules? I thought they were tips. The rules to inconspicuous photography are tips, tricks, rules or guidelines. All these words are synonymous and mean the same thing in this context. All of these tips are complimentary to each other, even when they seem to contradict. You may come into many different scenarios and situations where different tactics are needed.

Recall the same situation as was previously described. You are in a busy downtown square, surrounded by people, taking photos. Just as before you have your eyes to the sky and are snapping the photos looking upward. This time, however, you are not taking photos of birds at all but are actually taking pictures of the buildings themselves. Your exact motive for taking the photos isn’t important, but telling someone that you are taking photos of buildings seems a little more odd. While the person isn’t likely to do much more than give you an odd look there are other situations that might not run so smoothly.

Imagine another situation where you are taking inconspicuous photos in a place where someone of authority might get in your way. They might not have any authority to turn you away in reality as you are not breaking any rules, but they may pose an intrusive force that may cause you to feel the need to leave. That would be very unfortunate, especially as it could ruin the entire outing. So if you are taking photos of something that might confuse the person confronting you then don’t tell them what you are taking photos of. Lie.

This could perhaps cause you some concern. Why should you have to lie about what you’re doing if you aren’t doing anything wrong? The simple answer is that you aren’t lying because you’re doing something wrong; you’re lying to simplify what could become an unusual, awkward or troublesome confrontation should you be misunderstood. It’s easier to say you’re taking photos of birds instead of buildings should that make things run more smoothly.

That’s it for today. Check back soon for another few tips for inconspicuous photography!

The market now offers a lot of technology to choose from that caters our concern with photographs to last longer without getting damage and still looking new. There are state of the art printers with advanced ink technology that are definitely perfect for camera savvy individuals who would like to print their own work. Just like the paintings and even murals, photographs shall also be taken care of so that you will not be wasting money on the printing of the same photographs over and over again. I will be giving you information on your concerns about photographs.

If you are a camera savvy and you like taking pictures all the time and printing all that you have taken, then, you must know this. When you buy for printers, it is advisable that you buy a printer that is really designed for printing perfect photographs. So much so, use original inks from the same manufacturer of your photo printer to ensure the quality of the output. You may also check for photo papers with the same manufacturer of your printer and ink. Doing so will give you the assurance that you will have an excellent quality output that will last a lifetime.

On printing your piece of work, do not directly store them on the albums or frames. It is better if you allow the newly printed photographs to dry for at least one day so that it will dry fully. You might think that a picture printed looks dry after a few minutes but actually it is not. Therefore, put them first on a place where no one can touch it in order for the output to fully dry.

It is also good that you will keep your photographs last longer and still looking new. The perfect answer to this is through procuring additional equipment like the hot and cold laminating pouch machines. It is great if you laminate your work to ensure that it is protected from any pollutants. Make sure that you laminate your work only after it dries fully. For larger pictures, you may A4 laminating pouches. Giving this kind of protection is somewhat time consumer but I tell you it is worth the wait and effort.

Some would prefer to store their thousand words painted work in an album. If you will do this kind of protection, you have to be certain that you utilize albums that have protective layers. Albums that have protective layers ensure your precious work not to be exposed when not viewed. It is important that you do not use albums, which has PVC sleeves because as time passes by it will stick to your photos.

Lastly, you may also use frames to add extra protection to your photographs. But, do not just use those usual cheap frames available on the market. Choose those frames that have glasses that will filter ultraviolet light. If you will make use of the usual frames, then, your photos will surely fade in no time. A frame of this type is a bit costly but it is worth. Further, choose metal or plastic frames and not those made from wood and cardboard. This is because frames made from the latter will attract moisture that can damage to your photographs.
